Ahmedabad: A video purportedly shot inside the lock-up of the Shaherkotda police station, showing a detainee using abusive language and popping a pill, has gone viral, prompting an internal inquiry into how the footage was recorded.The video appears to show a man identified by local police as Shahid Ansari, a resident of Gomtipur with a history of being detained in preventive action.In the clip, Ansari allegedly talks about ordering food while in custody.Inspector V N Chaudhary said the episode occurred about a month ago when Ansari had been detained under preventive provisions.According to the officer, another man was seated outside the lock-up at the time. Police said the second individual, a student of a premier institute in Gandhinagar, had been traced after his parents reported him missing.Ansari allegedly requested the student to record a video of him while consuming some medicine. Police said the footage was not shot using a mobile phone inside the lock-up.Instead, the student allegedly recorded the video from outside and later shared it with Ansari. The video surfaced on social media on Tuesday.Officials said the inquiry will ascertain how the video eventually reached the accused and was uploaded. They are also examining whether there was any lapse in lock-up procedures or supervision.Police maintained that appropriate action would be taken if any procedural violations are established.
