Ahmedabad: Another rain-packed weekend could test Amdavadis, just days after widespread downpour caused flooding and disrupted lives in the city.Ahmedabad is facing chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday, according to the Met department. Similar conditions are likely in Anand, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi and Dang. Very heavy rain could continue in Ahmedabad and several other districts on Saturday too. The approaching spell has been linked to a deep depression moving westwards from Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha.The system is moving westwards and is likely to reach eastern Madhya Pradesh within the next 24 hours. Its movement is expected to strengthen other rain-bearing systems, including the monsoon trough and a shear zone, according to IMD.Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely at isolated places in Gandhinagar, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Navsari, Valsad, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar and Botad. The remaining districts could receive anything from light rain accompanied by thunderstorms to isolated heavy showers, according to Wednesday’s forecast.

Heavy rains are expected in Kheda, Panchmahal, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Kutch. Other districts may experience light to moderate rain, according to the forecast.Before the more intense spell arrives, isolated very heavy rain is likely on Thursday in Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari and Valsad. Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, and Bharuch could receive isolated heavy rain, while Ahmedabad and the remaining districts are likely to get light to moderate showers.Gujarat has so far received 55% of its average seasonal rainfall, according to State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) data. South Gujarat has recorded the highest share at 78.5%, followed by east-central Gujarat at 48%, Saurashtra at 44%, north Gujarat at 43% and Kutch at 19%.Ahmedabad city has received 61% of its average seasonal rainfall so far.Dahod, Mahisagar, Surat, Narmada and Valsad were among the districts that received moderate rain on Wednesday, according to the SEOC.
