Jaipur: The family of an 18-year-old BTech student, who died on Jan 2 after allegedly consuming poison in Jaisinghpura Khor police station area, has accused a group of online betting operators of harassing and extorting him.Police said the deceased, Abhishek Naval, was a first-year BTech student at an engineering college in Kookas. His uncle filed an FIR on Feb 10, following which police began examining the student’s mobile phone and digital trail from Saturday to identify those allegedly harassing him.According to the complaint, Abhishek’s health deteriorated at home on the morning of Jan 2, and he collapsed after feeling dizzy. Family members rushed him to SMS Hospital, where he died during treatment around 2.30pm the same day. Doctors informed the family that the death was caused by the consumption of poison. In the FIR, the family alleged that 4 men forced Abhishek into online betting and subjected him to repeated threats and illegal recovery. The accused allegedly pressured him to bring jewellery, cash and property documents from home and imposed daily penalties of Rs 2,000–Rs 3,000.The complainant alleged that the accused extorted around Rs 1.1 lakh in cash, Rs 1.35 lakh meant for college fees, and original plot documents worth about Rs 6 lakh. tnn
