BENGALURU: A 25-year-old woman accused of murdering her parents and younger sister last month told a magistrate’s court Thursday that she wanted to voluntarily confess to the crime.Asked by the court whether she understood the legal consequences of making a confession, Shwetha said she was aware of the implications and would like to proceed. She said she had already confessed to police and wished to reiterate her statements before the court.Shwetha, 24, a software engineer, is accused of murdering her father Somasundar, 52, mother Muthulakshmi, 48, and younger sister Supriya, 19, along with her live-in partner Kenneth J, 25, at their flat in Seegehalli, KR Pura, on June 22.Police allege Kenneth stabbed Muthulakshmi to death while she was asleep on a sofa, after which Shwetha helped him shift the body to the bedroom. When Somasundar and Supriya arrived at the flat and discovered the body, Kenneth allegedly attacked them as well — stabbing Supriya repeatedly after catching her, while Somasundar managed to run out but collapsed on the staircase. He later died in hospital, having told police that Kenneth and Shwetha were responsible for the attack.The two accused, both engineering graduates and former classmates, fled Bengaluru the night of the murders on a two-wheeler, which broke down near Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. They then split up — Shwetha boarding a bus to Puducherry, where she was arrested from a hotel room two days later. Kenneth remains at large.During interrogation, Shwetha and Kenneth allegedly claimed the killings were driven by financial distress, saying Shwetha’s parents were upset over unpaid loans amounting to Rs 56 lakh, which she had raised to support Kenneth. Police, however, said Shwetha kept changing her version of events, particularly regarding Kenneth’s role, and that a clearer picture would emerge once he is traced.Investigators had earlier sought court permission to conduct brain-mapping tests on both accused to verify the veracity of their claims.Both are currently in judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison.
