Hecklers hurled accusations, calling BJP MLA a ‘rapist’, which ignited a tense standoff

BENGALURU: BJP MLA Muniratna was reportedly heckled by Congress workers and called a “rapist” at a polling station in Bengaluru on October 23, with a video of the confrontation now going viral on social media. The incident is said to have occurred during polling for the Karnataka Legislative Council elections at the Ambedkar College polling station in Nagarbhavi. In the video, Congress workers are seen heckling Muniratna, the MLA from Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency, and hurling the slur at him.The MLA is then seen confronting the workers, following which police personnel intervene to shield him from the group and ask him to leave the spot. The incident took place during elections to four seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council representing Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies. The BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance subsequently won all four seats, securing two Graduates’ seats and two Teachers’ seats. The results were a setback for the ruling Congress, which said it would accept the voters’ verdict and review its performance. The Karnataka BJP later took a swipe at Chief Minister DK Shivakumar following the alliance’s clean sweep, posting on X: “DK, it’s done, bro! NDA SWEEPS 4/4 Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies in the MLC elections!”
