Bengaluru: A head constable saved a man from attempting suicide on a railway track in Yelahanka Monday evening.A resident of RMZ Galleria Apartments spotted the man lying on the tracks around 5.40pm, recorded a video, and alerted the emergency helpline 112. The information was quickly relayed to the Hoysala Cheetah patrol, and head constable Sridhar Murthy responded immediately. After contacting the caller for precise location details and real-time updates, Murthy reached the spot by 5.50pm.On arrival, he found the man lying on the track and intervened without delay, asking him to get up. The man complied and moved off the tracks; he was heavily intoxicated. Murthy then counselled him, reassuring him that suicide is not a solution and encouraging him to open up about his problems.The man, identified as Suresh (name changed), a resident of Huvinayakanahalli near Begur, said he worked as a bike-taxi captain. He had earlier run a business but suffered heavy losses, leaving him with debts of around Rs 1 crore. Struggling with financial stress and personal issues, including separation from his wife, he had taken the extreme step. A train passed on the track just five minutes after the rescue.Murthy later contacted Suresh’s elder brother and ensured he was safely sent home.Senior officials lauded Murthy’s prompt response, dedication, and humane approach, noting that his timely intervention saved a life.
