Kolkata: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has opened four more Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) in the state to meet the rising demand for Aadhaar-related services, like enrolment and update. The new centres at Sonarpur, Chinsurah, Burdwan and Purulia have taken the number of ASKs in the state to 12.Plans are afoot to set up a total of 22 such centres, according to a govt announcement on Friday.Earlier, the state had ASKs in Kolkata, Howrah, Asansol, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Malda, Siliguri and Nadia.The UIDAI-operated first ASK in the state was set up at Sector V in 2019. The city had another centre at Esplanade two years later. Akhilesh Kumar Gupta, deputy director general (DDG) of UIDAI Regional Office, Ranchi, said, “The new ASKs are expected to significantly improve accessibility, reduce travel time for residents, and facilitate faster delivery of Aadhaar-related services across Bengal.”All these centres, operating between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm seven days a week, assist citizens in getting Aadhaar-related services in their own districts. “The new centres have been added to strengthen Aadhaar service delivery and cater to the increasing demand for enrolment and update services across the state,” said an official.
