Madikeri: A wild elephant breached railway barricades meant to prevent tusker movement from the forest and entered a residential area in Kajur village under Aiguru Gram Panchayat on Sunday, damaging a house and wto vehicles.Three elephants entered the Kajur forest area around 6.30 am. While two returned to the forest, one elephant entered the house premises of M.G. Gopalakrishna. It damaged the house gate, an autorickshaw and a scooter parked in the shed, and also a portion of the roof. Family members woke up to the elephant on the premises, were in shock and raised an alarm.Lakhs of rupees spent by the authorities on railway barricades, solar fencing and elephant trenches along the Kajur forest stretch have proved in vain, with elephants continuing to cross these barriers.Forest department personnel later visited the spot.
