Varanasi: Advocates of the Banaras Bar Association on Friday protested the police action of allegedly making three detained persons apologize with folded hands following a scuffle over applying chandan tilak to devotees near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. They submitted a memorandum to senior police officials, demanding action against the personnel involved and an inquiry into the incident.Banaras Bar Association president Vinod Shukla, along with advocates Saurabh Pandey, Vivek Pandey, Vikas Singh, Dinesh Dixit and others, met ACP Alok Priyadarshi and submitted a memorandum demanding action against the police personnel responsible in the matter. The police officer assured them that the issue would be investigated.The incident took place on Thursday near Gate No. 4 of KVT, where a dispute broke out among people who apply chandan tilak to devotees. The argument escalated and reportedly turned into a scuffle. Chowk police reached the spot and took three people into custody.According to SHO Dilip Kumar Mishra, some people near Gate No. 4 were arguing over applying chandan tilak to devotees. Despite police efforts to calm them down, the situation did not come under control. Considering the possibility of a disturbance in the temple area, the police detained the three and initiated preventive action to maintain peace.Police said action was taken on the basis of CCTV footage and information gathered from people present at the spot. After strict action by the police, the accused were made to apologize with folded hands.The detained persons were identified as Ajay Dubey, 58, a resident of Chhittupur, Sigra; Hariom Pandey, 19, a resident of Brahmanal, Chowk; and Rajesh Pandey, a resident of Brahmanal, Chowk.
