Bhubaneswar: The crime branch, investigating the recent lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in Balianta, secured two-day remand of three accused on Wednesday for interrogation.“Of the 20 accused arrested so far, we have taken Skilab Pati, Bismay Mohanty and Panchanan Badjena on two-day remand to reconstruct the sequence of events. Their statements will be cross-verified with eyewitnesses and other accused,” said DG (crime branch) Vinaytosh Mishra. In another development, the govt has directed DGP Y B Khurania to initiate disciplinary proceedings against suspended IPS officer Dayal Gangwar. ADG-ranked officer Gangwar was suspended on June 18 after Swain’s family accused him of harassment and exploitation, alleging that Swain was compelled to serve as Gangwar’s domestic help during his tenure as ADG (railway) in 2023–24.Khurania confirmed compliance with the directive. “We are taking action as per protocol,” Khurania said.
