Depending on the duration of the course, students could receive up to ₹1.5 lakh over two to five years.

New Delhi: The Azim Premji Foundation has launched its scholarship programme in Delhi, with plans to support up to 20,000 girls pursuing undergraduate degrees or diploma courses this year.

Under the Azim Premji Scholarship for Delhi (NCT), each selected student will receive ₹30,000 a year from the first year of college until completion of her undergraduate degree or diploma. Depending on the duration of the course, students could receive up to ₹1.5 lakh over two to five years.

The scholarship can be used towards college fees and other education-related expenses.

Launched in 2024, the scholarship is now available to girls who have completed their schooling in 21 States and Union Territories, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana.

To be eligible, students must have completed Classes 10 and 12 in a government school in one of the eligible states or UTs and secured admission to the first year of an undergraduate degree or diploma course at a recognised institution anywhere in India.

The Foundation said it aims to support up to 5 lakh girls across India every year. Since undergraduate programmes generally run for around three years, it estimates that nearly 15 lakh girls could have an active scholarship at any given time.

Since the programme was launched in 2024, more than 1.9 lakh girls have received support, according to the Foundation.

The scholarship application process is online and free, with applications accepted through the Azim Premji Foundation’s official website.

Anurag Behar, CEO, Azim Premji Foundation, said higher education is an important enabler of lifelong empowerment for girls and that the scholarship aims to address barriers that continue to affect their access to higher education.

The expansion to Delhi is part of the Foundation’s wider plan to increase the scale of the scholarship programme across India.
