Bhargavi with her father Bharat

Vadodara: For years, Bharat Machhi, an auto-driver from Vadodara, spent countless days and sleepless nights behind the wheel as he wanted to give his children the best of education. Today, those dreams have come full circle. Two years after his son earned a place at IIT Goa by cracking the JEE without coaching, his daughter, Bhargavi, has secured a coveted job as a software development engineer with Amazon.A graduate from Government Engineering College in Gandhinagar, Bhargavi is set to begin her career in Hyderabad with an impressive salary package. Like her brother, she achieved the milestone without private tuition. “I knew that I had to score well if I wanted admission in a govt college where fees are low. So, I studied hard and scored 86% in Class XII before opting for the computer science degree in Gandhinagar college,” Bhargavi told TOI.She also excelled in the computer science degree and was picked for an internship in Amazon at Hyderabad. “They offered me a job soon after the internship. It’s a dream come true. This opportunity will help me improve the finances and support my parents who have worked hard all these years to ensure a good education for us,” 21-year-old Bhargavi said. For Bharat, who spent years battling financial hardship, the appointment letter means much more than a prestigious job. “While I drove an auto round the clock, my wife too worked tirelessly and saved money all these years. Now, we can finally relax a little as both our children are on the right career path,” Bharat said with a smile and some relief on his face. However, he is worried too as his wife was recently diagnosed with cancer and is under treatment.“Like her brother, Bhargavi is very hard-working and completely focused. She got placed on her merit and will achieve a lot in future,” said Bela Khajuria, project director of the Kayakalp programme run by the Mahavir Foundation that supported Bhargavi. Khajuria had also recognised Pranay’s potential and sponsored half of his school fees from Class IX onwards.
