NEW DELHI: Two people were killed in separate accidents involving Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses in the city on Sunday. While a 25-year-old autorickshaw driver died after a DTC bus rammed his vehicle on Humayun Road in central Delhi, a 19-year-old youth was hit by a DTC bus while crossing a road in north Delhi’s Azadpur.The first incident took place around 2.45am, after which a PCR call was made to Tughlaq Road police station. Police arrived to find the auto driver, identified as Mantu Mahto, lying critically injured on the road near his damaged three-wheeler. Police said the bus, allegedly driven by a 40-year-old man, crashed into the auto from behind, causing it to lose balance.The impact led to the auto overturning, throwing Mahto onto the road. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’. Mahto is survived by his wife and a young child. Police said a case has been registered. The bus driver, who was present at the spot, has been arrested. The bus has been taken into custody for further investigation. Cops are scanning CCTV footage from the area to ascertain how the collision took place. The other incident took place on Sunday evening. A PCR call was received at Adarsh Nagar police station around 5.30pm, informing cops about a fatal road accident in Azadpur area. A police team reached the spot and found the victim, identified as Akash, a 19-year-old labourer residing in Shalimar Bagh’s Sahipur village, critically injured. He was later declared dead. A crime team inspected the spot and the teenager’s body was shifted to BJRM mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination. The victim’s family has been informed. Police said the bus driver involved in the accident fled the spot, and efforts are under way to identify it and trace him with the help of CCTV footage from nearby areas. A case has been registered under sections of BNS pertaining to rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
