Chandigarh: Four unidentified men allegedly robbed an autorickshaw driver of Rs 2,000 at knifepoint near the Sector 37/38 chowk Friday night, prompting a police probe.The victim, Vipin Kumar, a resident of Maloya, told police that the four men hired his auto from Sector 20 for a ride to the Sector 39/40 light point. When the vehicle reached the Sector 37/38 chowk, one of the passengers allegedly pulled out a knife, threatened him and forced him to stop. The suspects then allegedly snatched Rs 2,000 in cash and fled.Kumar alerted the police through the 112 helpline. A team from Sector 39 police station reached the spot and recorded his statement. A case has been registered and efforts are under way to identify the accused.Police said CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the area is being examined to trace the suspects. No arrests have been made so far.In a separate incident, Sector 17 police arrested Rajan Kumar, a resident of Sector 38 West, for allegedly snatching a gold earring from a woman.Police said the complainant, a resident of Kajheri village, reported that an unidentified man snatched her earring near the maintenance office park in Sector 23 Friday and fled. During the investigation, police arrested Rajan Kumar and claimed to have recovered the stolen earring from his possession. Further investigation is under way.
