Hyderabad: Sanathnagar police arrested a 23-year-old auto driver for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl. The accused was produced before a court on Thursday and remanded in judicial custody.According to the police, family members of the girl, a high school student, approached them on Wednesday afternoon alleging that the accused had kidnapped her in his auto while she was on her way to school earlier in the day. They alleged that he took her to a GHMC park in the locality and raped her.After the assault, the accused allegedly fled the area. The girl later informed her family about the incident. In their complaint, the family also alleged the involvement of two other local men in the offence.Police shifted the girl for a medical examination and recorded her statement at a Bharosa Centre. In her statement, the girl also alleged that the accused had raped her earlier in April.Based on her statement, Sanathnagar police registered a case against the auto driver under section 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (rape of a girl below 16 years of age) and sections 5 and 6 of the Pocso Act. The accused was arrested from Sanathnagar on Tuesday night.Police are verifying the alleged role of the two other men and said preliminary investigation suggests they were not involved in the rape.
