Subarnarekha in spate at Rajghat in Balasore district Bhubaneswar: River Subarnarekha in north Odisha was in spate on Tuesday and crossed the danger mark at Rajghat causing flash flood threat for the second time in a month. Guwahati: Supreme Court has issued notices to 25 convicts in the 2019 lynching of doctor Deben Dutta in Assam’s Jorhat district.The notices were issued while hearing an Assam govt petition challenging a Gauhati high court judgment that altered their convictions from murder to “culpable homicide not amounting to murder” and reduced their sentences to 10 years.The high court passed the order on July 30, 2025. In 2020, a Jorhat sessions court sentenced the convicts. Kanpur: A 56-year-old woman died after her mud house collapsed amid continuous rain in Kanpur early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Shakuntala Vishwakarma, a resident of Fufwar Rajthok village.Locals rushed to the spot after hearing a loud thud and pulled her out of the debris. Porvorim: Govt on Tuesday passed the Goa Prisons and Correctional Services Bill, 2026, aimed at tightening surveillance to curb organised crime inside prisons, enabling probes into sexual harassment complaints, and creating open and semi-open correctional institutions. Chief minister Pramod Sawant said the foundation stone for an open prison will be laid this month.Under the Bill, govt will install advanced cellular jamming and detection solutions in jails to prevent unauthorised cell phone use.
