Guwahati: Supreme Court has issued notices to 25 convicts in the 2019 lynching of doctor Deben Dutta in Assam’s Jorhat district.The notices were issued while hearing an Assam govt petition challenging a Gauhati high court judgment that altered their convictions from murder to “culpable homicide not amounting to murder” and reduced their sentences to 10 years.The high court passed the order on July 30, 2025. Kanpur: A 56-year-old woman died after her mud house collapsed amid continuous rain in Kanpur early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Shakuntala Vishwakarma, a resident of Fufwar Rajthok village.Locals rushed to the spot after hearing a loud thud and pulled her out of the debris. She was taken to Kanshiram Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Police said Shakuntala’s husband had died several years ago and she lived with her three sons.
