Guwahati: Rain and thunderstorms swept across parts of Assam, bringing an end to months of dry spell. Arunachal Pradesh also recorded heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.On Thursday, IMD warned that lightning, along with heavy to very heavy rain, was very likely at isolated places over Arunachal, while heavy rain was very likely at isolated places over Assam in the next 24 hours.According to IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, light to moderate rain occurred at many places, with isolated heavy falls over Arunachal during the last 24 hours. The Met Office also reported hail measuring 5 mm in diameter at isolated places over Meghalaya in the same period.“Light to moderate rain occurred at a few places over Assam and Meghalaya and at isolated places over Nagaland and Manipur; and light rain occurred at a few places over Mizoram and at isolated places over Tripura,” RMC said in a bulletin on Thursday.In the last 24 hours, Tuting in Arunachal recorded the highest rainfall at 9 cm.At the same time, daytime temperatures rose over Mizoram and Nagaland, while there was no significant change over Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.For the next 4 days, the IMD issued warnings of heavy rain and thunderstorms at places across various northeastern states.RMC said Guwahati and its neighbourhoods are likely to see generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers over the next couple of days.
