Assam grapples with escalating floods, impacting nearly 46,000 residents across six districts.

GUWAHATI: Assam’s flood situation showed no signs of improvement on Wednesday, with nearly 46,000 people affected across six districts.According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one woman died after being swept away by floodwaters in Sissiborgaon in Dhemaji district on Tuesday night. This marks the first flood-related death in the state this year, news agency PTI reported.Two major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, were flowing above the danger level, while infrastructure damage was reported from several areas.Over 3,809 hectares of cropland remained submerged, officials said.The ASDMA said 46,938 people across 10 revenue circles and 221 villages in Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts were affected by the floods.Dhemaji emerged as the worst-hit district, accounting for 45,841 affected people, PTI reported.More than 450 displaced persons have taken shelter in four relief camps, while six relief distribution centres are also operational.The floods have affected over 88,000 animals.(With agency inputs)
