Dibrugarh: A five-day FoSTaC “Serve Safe Food” training programme for street food vendors concluded on Monday, training nearly 200 participants in hygiene and safe food handling.Held from June 26 to 30, the programme was organised by the Commissionerate of Food Safety, Assam, in partnership with Nestle India and the training partner, the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI). It aimed to boost awareness of food safety standards, hygiene, and the importance of serving quality, contamination-free food.A senior official from the commissionerate said the initiative was designed to strengthen grassroots food safety. “Street food vendors form an integral part of our local economy and food culture. Through this training, we want to ensure that the food being served to the public meets basic safety and hygiene benchmarks,” the official said.A NASVI representative said the sessions offered practical guidance tailored to vendors’ daily work. “Our trainers worked closely with the vendors to explain simple but crucial practices, from proper handwashing to safe storage of ingredients. The response from the vendors has been very encouraging,” the representative added.Vendors received certificates on completion and said the training clarified food safety norms. Officials said certification could help vendors build consumer trust and expand their customer base.
