Chandrapur: With temperatures crossing 44°C and heatwave conditions looming, the district administration has ordered all schools and colleges to operate only in morning sessions and close by 11am.

District Collector Vasumana Pant issued the directive following a review meeting with education officials, citing concerns about heat-related illnesses, particularly heatstroke, among students commuting during peak afternoon hours. The order applies to all educational institutions — govt, aided, and private — across the district.

Pant, who also heads the District Disaster Management Authority, instructed officials to enforce the order strictly and ensure schools adopt necessary precautionary measures. Departments concerned have been asked to remain vigilant and responsive to emerging health concerns.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of possible heatwave conditions in parts of Vidarbha, including Chandrapur, in the coming days, prompting the administration to urge residents to take adequate precautions against extreme heat exposure.
