Belagavi/Jhajjar: Lieutenant Amit Jakhad, a 24-year-old Army officer from Haryana’s Jhajjar district, died in Karnataka’s Belagavi on Sunday, plunging his native village, Naugama, into deep mourning.Lt Jakhad is suspected to have suffered a heart attack while swimming in the Commando Wing Army camp in Nanawadi. Although first aid was administered immediately and he was sent to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, he died on the way. Lt Jakhad was the only son of Raj Singh, a retired Army veteran. Born on March 5, 2002, Lt Jakhad had embarked on his journey in the armed forces after joining the National Defence Academy on April 23, 2021, seen by many in Naugama as the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition. “Amit had nurtured the dream of serving the nation since childhood,” a local resident recalled as people gathered at the family home. Sarpanch Ajay Kumar said the entire village is in mourning. He described Amit as a bright student, a disciplined youth and a courageous individual whose loss will be deeply felt by all. Colleagues described him as a promising and spirited officer who had earned a reputation for exceptional discipline and composure during his short but impactful tenure. In a solemn moment, Army officials handed over the national flag to his father and sister as a mark of honour and respect. The last rites were conducted on Sunday with full military honours.
