Kanpur: Naked, wounded body of an Army soldier was found at his residence in Kanpur Dehat on Tuesday and his family accused his wife and brother-in-law of murdering him. Police detained his wife and questioned her.Suvendra Singh Chauhan, 33, was stationed in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra and had returned home on leave on Apr 13.Chauhan, from Subhash Nagar, was originally from Murali Purwa (Lachhiya) Kanchausi in Auraiya. He lived in a rented house in Subhash Nagar, Jhinjhak, with his wife and two sons. His brother, Rajendra Pratap, said Chauhan withdrew Rs 30 lakh from his General Provident Fund two months ago and had also sold a plot of land. Pratap alleged that Chauhan was murdered on the inervening night of Apr 26 and 27 and money was the motive.Pratap said that on Tuesday, Chauhan’s wife, Nidhi, called to say Chauhan had not come out of his room for past two days. The family went to the house, broke open the door and found him dead.Pratap accused Nidhi and her brother of committing the murder and said all of Chauhan’s in-laws had fled. The body was found naked with wounds, indicating attack with a sharp weapon.Chauhan’s aunt, Pushpa, said there were frequent arguments between the couple. She said that on Tuesday, Nidhi informed her sister-in-law that her husband had not opened the room door for two days and there was foul smell coming from inside.Police reached the spot and sent the body for autopsy. A medicine vial and a liquor bottle were found in the room. Police said the case was under investigation and exact cause of death would be determined after post mortem report.ASP Alok Prasad said, “We are examining all aspects. Based on the family’s allegations and questioning the wife and brother-in-law of the deceased.”
