Ludhiana: Amid recent rainfall, night temperature in the city dropped, with Thursday recording the lowest minimum temperature for April in the past three years. The mercury dipped to 13 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest April night since 2023.According to the meteorological department, the minimum (night) temperature recorded in Ludhiana on Thursday was 13 degrees Celsius, which was 3.4 degrees below normal. Data shows this was the lowest night temperature in April since April 2023, when the minimum was 12.9 degrees Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature recorded in April over the past few years was 10.6 degrees Celsius in April 2021.The city also witnessed an unusual dip in daytime temperatures earlier this month. As per Met department data, the lowest maximum (day) temperature in the ongoing April was 24.2 degrees Celsius, recorded on April 7. This was the lowest April day temperature since April 2023, when it stood at 20.3 degrees Celsius.Temperature trends for the current month show that night temperatures remained at 15 degrees Celsius or above during the first seven days of April. However, a noticeable decline was recorded thereafter, with minimum temperatures dipping to 14 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and further down to 13 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The highest night temperature this month was recorded on April 3 at 20.8 degrees Celsius.A Met department official attributed the drop in temperature to recent rainfall in the city. He said the sky was likely to remain mostly clear over the next few days.Residents also felt a chill in the air, particularly during the evenings. Kirat Kaur, a homemaker, said she experienced colder weather on Wednesday evening and night and wore a sweater while going out for an evening walk.
