Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy urged Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar to approve Phase-II of Hyderabad Metro Rail project, and take up the metro link between Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Bharat Future City corridor under Phase-III. Revanth met the Union minister in New Delhi on Wednesday.In view of the increasing demand for metro services, the CM urged Khattar to expedite the approval so that Phase-II can be taken up as a joint venture between the Union govt and Telangana govt.The CM informed Khattar that the Telangana govt has already formulated a comprehensive plan for the Phase-ll, comprising seven corridors.He apprised the minister of the urgent need for the expansion of the Metro rail network to ensure safe mass public transportation and commuter convenience in rapidly expanding Hyderabad.The chief minister explained that the state government had taken full control of the Metro rail Phase-l from L&TMRHL with the objective of ensuring smooth and seamless execution of Phase-II and III.“With an aim of expanding the Metro rail network, the state govt has already submitted a comprehensive DPR for Phase-II — covering total distance of 122.9 km across seven corridors — at an estimated cost of Rs38,595 crore,” Revanth said.To meet the future requirements of public transportation, the CM also urged Khattar to take up the RGI Airport-Bharat Future City corridor under Phase-III, the DPR of which has already been submitted.Union housing and urban affairs secretary K Srinivas, special secretary to the CM B Ajith Reddy, HMRCL MD Sarfaraz Ahmed, govt advisor (urban transport) NVS Reddy, officer on special duty at Telangana Bhavan (Delhi) Sanjay Kumar, secretary for coordination of central govt schemes Advait Kumar Singh, among others participated in the meeting.
