Srinagar, Oct 9: Apni Party on Friday raised concerns over the delimitation process and alleged failure of the ruling National Conference (NC) to fulfil its promises during a workers’ convention in Central Shalteng constituency.

The convention was organised by Zaffar Habib Dar, Srinagar district president and constituency in-charge for Central Shalteng, and chaired by Apni Party’s Provincial President Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Mir.

Addressing party workers, Mir alleged that the delimitation exercise had significantly altered the region’s electoral map, leaving many residents, particularly young people, confused about constituency boundaries and demographic changes.

He said the expansion of private development and population in Shalteng warranted consideration of two separate constituencies to ensure adequate representation.

Criticising the NC government, Mir said basic facilities such as roads and other public infrastructure were the fundamental rights of citizens and should not be presented as political achievements.

“The NC came into power with a huge majority, but all their promises have failed. If they received such a massive mandate, why don’t they speak up for the rights of the people?” he asked.

Mir urged voters to assess political parties on their performance and hold elected representatives accountable for their commitments, saying public representatives should prioritise people’s needs over personal interests.

Speaking on the occasion, Dar also criticised the government’s approach to public service, alleging that basic infrastructure and civic amenities were being portrayed as favours rather than essential responsibilities.

He accused the NC of failing to meet public expectations and said elected representatives must remain accountable to the people.

Party leaders Yawar Dilawar Mir, State Youth President and spokesperson; Women’s Wing President Dilshad Shaheen; and spokesperson Ishrat Bhat also addressed the gathering.

Meanwhile, Apni Party welcomed several new entrants, including Karan Singh, Sajad Ahmad, Mehraj Din, Nazir Ahmad Shagoo, Gulzar Ahmad, Jan Mohd Beigh, Showkat Ahmad, Umar Ahmad, Imran Ahmad, Babar Sofi, Ubaid Ahmad and Imtiyaz Ahmad, among others.
