Chandigarh: Enforcement wing of the Chandgarh MC on Wednesday carried out a special anti-encroachment drive in different parts of the city, including sectors 20, 26 outer mandi area and Manimajra, to curb illegal vending and unauthorised occupation of public spaces. The drive commenced in the morning in Sector 20, where the enforcement team took action against unauthorised vendors operating on municipal land. During the operation, 22 ice-cream rehri (handcarts) were impounded for operating without permission and creating obstruction on public pathways. Later, the enforcement team conducted a drive in Sector 26 outer mandi area, where four trucks illegally selling coconuts and watermelons on municipal land were impounded. In addition, seven fruit rehris were also removed for operating without authorisation and causing inconvenience to pedestrians and traffic.Further action was taken in Manimajra where the team impounded three food vans and three motorcycles found encroaching on public space. The drive aimed to ensure smooth movement of traffic, maintain cleanliness, and prevent unauthorised commercial activities on public land. . tnn
