In a heart-wrenching incident, a jawan from the Sashastra Seema Bal took his own life with his service revolver at a camp in Chatra district late Tuesday evening. The soldier, identified as Prahlad Singh from Deoghar, was assigned to the 35th battalion. Shockingly, his family had spoken to him just hours before, noting no signs of distress.

Chatra: A jawan of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) posted in Chatra district shot himself dead with the service revolver at a camp under Simaria police station limits late on Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday.He was identified as Prahlad Singh (30), a native of Deoghar district, and was posted with the 35th battalion at the Shila picket in Simaria block.The body was sent to Sadar Hospital, Chatra, for post-mortem, and an inquiry has been initiated, said police.Officer-in-charge of Simaria police station, Surya Pratap Singh said, “Further probe is on to ascertain why he took the extreme step.”The deceased’s brother Rohit Singh said that the family received a call from the SSB late in the night asking them to reach Chatra. “We last spoke to Prahlad around 5 pm on Tuesday. He said he was going to play cricket and would attend the evening prayer thereafter. There was nothing unusual,” Singh said.Prahlad joined service in 2017 and got married in 2018. He is survived by his wife and a minor daughter. He returned from leave about a month ago.Chatra has witnessed multiple cases of suicides involving security personnel. In March, 2024, a CRPF jawan shot himself dead in Vashisht Nagar Jori area. In Feb the same year, another jawan died by suicide.
