MUMBAI: A few locals from Lokhandwala in Andheri West, have expressed their objections to the two-year closure of a portion of the Mogra Nala main bridge on Achyutrao Patwardhan Marg, citing mounting daily hardships in their travelIn a written complaint, Prashant Rane, an MNS functionary and local resident, pointed out that no repair or construction work has taken place since the closure, while traffic from both directions is being forced onto a single lane, causing severe congestion and daily inconvenience.“Residents have endured two years of hardship since one side of the Mogra Nallah bridge on Achyutrao Patwardhan Marg (Andheri West, Lokhandwala) was closed, forcing two‑way traffic onto a single lane. In that time, no repairs have been made; the closed section now serves as storage for construction materials. Even more alarming, a 400–500‑tonne iron span has remained atop the ageing, dilapidated bridge for nearly two years—raising the risk of structural failure and a major accident. To make matters worse, the abandoned site has become a hotspot for antisocial activities, including alcohol consumption,” stated a letter sent by Rane to the bMC bridges department and also chief planner of the Metro line 6 at MMRDA.Rane urged the authorities to conduct an immediate site inspection, resume pending work, or reopen the bridge entirely if repairs are not feasible in the short term. They’ve also demanded that the contractor be penalised for the extended delay. When contacted the civic bridges department said that the portion of the structure under question is given for the ongoing Metro line 6 works which is proposed from Lokhandwala upto Vikhroli Metro Corridor and is an elevated east-west corridor that will connect the western suburbs to the eastern suburbs of the city.MMRDA did not respond when contacted for a comment on the issue.
