Sonipat: A birthday celebration trip ended in tragedy on Friday when a speeding truck rammed a stationary car on National Highway-44 near a dhaba in Haryana’s Sonipat district, killing two sisters and leaving four others critically injured.Police said the victims were travelling from Tilak Nagar in Delhi to Murthal to celebrate the birthday of a child, Vardaan. At that moment, a speeding truck approaching from behind allegedly lost control, broke through the service-lane railing and slammed into the parked car.The impact was so severe that the truck dragged the car for nearly 100 metres, leaving it completely mangled. Mandeep Kaur and Manpreet Kaur died on the spot, while the remaining occupants — Sarvjeet Kaur, Jagjeet Kaur, Sameer and the child — sustained serious injuries.Local residents rushed to the scene and helped rescue the trapped passengers. The injured were shifted to Sonipat civil hospital, where they remain under treatment. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the truck driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle. A case has been registered against the unidentified driver, and teams have been formed to trace and arrest him.Preliminary investigations point to overspeeding and negligent driving as the cause of the accident.
