Amravati: The youth accused of killing a 17-year-old girl in Amravati was arrested from Gondia within 10 hours of committing the crime. Anand Nandkishor Bhad (22) stabbed the student in broad daylight at Ravi Nagar Chowk on Thursday.Rajapeth Police traced and arrested Bhad, a resident of Pohi in Murtijapur tehsil of Akola district, from Gondia late Thursday evening and brought him to Amravati. Bhad was produced before the court on Friday and has been remanded to police custody till Sept 8.Following the incident, hundreds of residents of Ravi Nagar and adjoining areas gathered at Rajapeth police station, demanding that the accused be paraded and given the strictest punishment.MLA Ravi Rana, deputy mayor Sachin Bhende, and others rushed to the police station. CP Rakesh Ola also reached the spot to control the situation. After an assurance from Rana and Ola that the case would be pursued strongly, the crowd relented.Meanwhile, MLA Ravi Rana and former MP Navneet Rana wrote a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding that the trial be held in a fast-track court. They also demanded that CCTV cameras be installed at key squares in Amravati for women’s safety, and that strict action be taken against the illegal sale of MD, ganja and other illegal businesses.
