Kanpur: Two months after nearly 60 ITBP officers and personnel swarmed the Kanpur Police Commissionerate, alleging that district govt medical officials were shielding doctors in a case involving the amputation of the right hand of a fellow jawan’s mother, Kanpur police on Tuesday chargesheeted nine people, including six doctors, for alleged negligence.The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Pradeep Kumar Shukla took cognisance of the chargesheet and issued summons to all the accused, directing them to appear before it on Aug 14.On May 19, Vikas Singh of ITBP’s 32 battalion stationed at Maharajpur created a stir after he reached the CP Office, carrying his mother’s amputated hand and alleging gross medical negligence by the private hospital.On May 20, accusing cops of inaction, the ITBP personnel registered their protest with Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal and ACP (law and order) Vipin Kumar Tada, accusing health officials of withholding a clear probe report.Reports said Singh, a resident of Alimau in Fatehpur, admitted his mother to a private hospital in Tatmill on May 13 for breathing issues. Her hand allegedly turned black during treatment due to infection. She was later shifted to another hospital where doctors amputated the hand on May 17.Later, an enquiry report said that excessive delay in treatment by Paras Hospital and Krishna Hospital amounted to gross negligence, which ultimately led to the amputation of the victim’s hand. Based on the findings, an FIR was registered against both hospitals under Section 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to negligent acts endangering human life or personal safety.
