Ahmedabad: Gujarat Vidyapith will hold its 72nd convocation ceremony on Aug 27 at its Gandhi Campus in Ahmedabad, with Union home and cooperation minister Amit Shah attending as the chief guest. Gujarat Vidyapith chancellor and Gujarat governor Acharya Devvrat will be the special guest at the event.The ceremony will begin at 4.30pm at Pranjivan Vidyarthi Bhavan. Degrees will be awarded to 900 students from 18 departments across seven faculties. The graduating batch includes 184 undergraduate students, 400 postgraduates, 232 graduate-level students, 21 postgraduate diploma students, and 63 MPhil and PhD scholars. Of the total, 441 are women and 459 are men.Around 559 graduates are expected to be present at the ceremony. Vice-chancellor Harshad Patel will deliver the welcome address, while Acharya Devvrat will deliver the convocation address.Established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920, Gujarat Vidyapith hosted President Droupadi Murmu as the chief guest at its 71st convocation ceremony last year.Earlier in the day on Aug 27, Shah will inaugurate a newly renovated lake at Dudhala in Amreli district. He will then travel to Ahmedabad, where he will chair a meeting to review preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030 which will be held in Ahmedabad.In the evening, Shah will attend the Pharminnova award function. A party statement said Shah will also attend a Lok Darbar in Bopal.
