Patna: Patna University (PU) vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh on Tuesday said the adoption of the Constitution in 1950 was a significant event not only in the political history of India but also in the history of social justice and human rights. It has opened up new avenues of human welfare and development in the country by providing equal rights and privileges to the citizens at large, he said.Speaking as the chief guest at the 135th anniversary celebrations of B R Ambedkar, jointly organised by PU Ambedkar chair and PU education department here, the vice-chancellor said Ambedkar’s thoughts were still relevant for the country’s all-round development.PU history department’s former head Bharti S Kumar said the Constitution maintains a fine balance between political and social justice and it could be made possible only through the efforts of Ambedkar. She said all the provisions made in the Constitution for ensuring welfare of common citizens must be implemented sincerely. PU education department head Khagendra Kumar presided over the meeting.PU dean of students’ welfare Yogendra Kumar Varma, education faculty dean Wasey Jafar, proctor Manoj Kumar Sinha and other faculty members and students of the university paid their tributes to Ambedkar on the occasion.
