Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar statue found damaged in Etawah

Kanpur: A nearly 33-year-old statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was found damaged in Kothi, a hamlet of Chandanpur village in Ekdil police station area of Etawah on Wednesday morning.Agitated over the incident, the villagers demanded immediate action in the matter.The administration installed a new statue of the same size on Wednesday evening and also installed a new CCTV camera for the security of the site.On being informed, gram pradhan Rekha Devi and station in charge Vikram Singh reached the spot along with police force. Workers of Bahujan Samaj Party, Azad Samaj Party and Bhim Army also arrived at the site and demanded arrest of the accused and installation of a new statue. The police pacified the villagers assuring them action against the culprits.Sadar MLA Sarita Bhadauria, SDM, CO Sadar Avnish Kumar Singh, tehsildar and lekhpal also arrived at the spot. The officials spoke to the villagers and assessed the situation.Villagers said that the boundary and roof construction at the statue site is still incomplete. Sadar MLA Sarita Bhadauria said that Rs 10 lakh has been approved by state govt for the development of the statue site, and that the amount will be used to complete the construction work.CO City Avnish Kumar Singh said, “A new statue of the same size was installed at the site. The situation is under control. The police are investigating the incident, and those who vandalized the statue will be identified and legal action will be taken against them.”
