Lucknow: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) will introduce an integrated MTech-PhD programme from the 2026-27 academic session to encourage research and attract more students towards doctoral studies.The university’s executive council has approved the proposal and the programme will be implemented after the university notifies the detailed regulations.According to AKTU officials under the new programme, students completing the two-year MTech course will be eligible to seek admission to PhD through the university’s entrance examination. Those who qualify will receive a waiver of six months of PhD coursework, allowing them to directly begin research work after completing the remaining academic requirements.“The initiative is aimed at strengthening research culture and making the transition from postgraduate studies to doctoral research smoother. The university is preparing the ordinance for the programme, which is likely to be rolled out in phases,”said AKTU vice-chancellor Prof JP Pandey.He said admissions to the integrated programme are expected to begin in the upcoming academic session, while implementation of the PhD component is likely from Dec.
