Srinagar, October 6 : Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi has questioned the government’s electricity recovery policy, saying that the latest figures presented in the J&K Legislative Assembly expose a serious disparity between the treatment of ordinary consumers and government establishments.
In a statement, AIP alleged that Government departments and Central Government establishments owe ₹4,385.30 crore in outstanding electricity dues.
“If an ordinary family fails to pay a relatively small electricity bill, its connection can be disconnected. Small businesses and commercial establishments face similar action. But when government departments owe thousands of crores, the question is why the same urgency and accountability is not visible,” Inam said.
Inam Un Nabi said the figures assume greater significance at a time when consumers are facing rising electricity costs and stricter recovery measures.
“The government cannot demand payment discipline from the people while allowing its own institutions to accumulate such enormous liabilities. There must be one standard of accountability for everyone, including the government itself,” he said.
Inam demanded a time-bound recovery of outstanding dues from government and Central Government establishments, along with a public department-wise statement showing the age of the arrears and action taken for their recovery.
