Nagpur: Air India Engineering Services Limited’s (AIESL) Mihan unit has become the first MRO facility in India capable of installing the advanced Nitrogen Generation System (NGS) on Boeing 737-800 aircraft.The Nagpur team installed the system on Air India Express aircraft VT-AXM, completing the complex modification two days ahead of schedule. NGS is an aircraft safety system that reduces the risk of fire or explosion in the centre fuel tank by replacing oxygen-rich air with nitrogen-enriched air.Air India Express officials appreciated the Nagpur team’s coordination and technical expertise in completing the work ahead of the stipulated deadline.The capability strengthens AIESL Nagpur’s capacity to undertake advanced aircraft safety modifications and is expected to boost the MRO facility’s role in India’s growing aviation maintenance sector. It also marks a step towards strengthening domestic MRO capabilities under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
