Ludhiana: Taking a small step towards digitally empowering agriculture, PAU showcased its auto-steering system for tractors Monday. The system is aimed at precision agriculture using satellite guidance and AI-enabled components to automate tractor steering for various field operations.PAU VC Satbir Singh Gosal emphasised that this technology is a crucial step towards reducing the physical burden on farmers and making farming more efficient and profitable. “It is possible to install this equipment, including a computer tablet, sensors, and a satellite navigation system onto any tractor. It helps save fuel and increases operational efficiency,” he said. Demonstrating how the technology works, a tractor operator started the vehicle, disembarked, and allowed the machine to complete its task autonomously. The VC explained that once the field is mapped, the tractor can drive on its own without any human intervention on the steering wheel. He assured that PAU will give a live demonstration of this system to farmers during the upcoming Kisan Mela. Though the system currently uses imported equipment, PAU has validated the technology and will work with local manufacturers to make it here. TNN
