New Delhi, Aug 23: “AI tools can accelerate the speed of business-management processes, but they cannot change the fundamental nature of decision-making. Leadership, trust, and decision-making remain fundamentally human responsibilities,” said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday as he addressed the 8th batch of the Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) and the 6th batch of the Integrated Programme in Law (IPL) at IIM Rohtak.
The Lieutenant Governor graced the valedictory function of the Induction & Orientation Programme and highlighted the institute’s pioneering initiatives in sports management, its commitment to gender diversity, 100 per cent placements, and outreach programmes such as skill development for the daughters of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha said that induction today is not merely about career opportunities or institutional brand value. In a rapidly transforming world, students must understand that the environment they prepare for will change dramatically by the time they graduate, he said, adding that technological progress is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, making lifelong learning essential to adapt to the evolving landscape.
“I want the spirit of adapting to change and working constructively to take deep root in your minds. Remember, the most important question in life is never ‘What do I do?’ The real question is: ‘What do I know so well that, despite all challenges and changing circumstances, I can re-establish myself fully in the market?’ The truth is that the ground beneath our feet is changing, right now, far faster than ever before,” he said.
The LG said that Artificial Intelligence will soon become as ubiquitous as Excel in management, just like an invisible, powerful infrastructure rather than a subject of study. Yet, he stressed that leadership, trust, and decision-making remain fundamentally human responsibilities.
“No technology can answer what should be created, what should be trusted, or how people should be led. AI tools can accelerate the speed of the business-management processes, but they cannot change the fundamental nature of decision-making,” he said.
For law students, the Lieutenant Governor underlined that while AI can draft contracts, it cannot interpret human intent or deliver justice with empathy. The legal system’s enduring role lies in accountability and fairness. He said these are the qualities machines cannot replicate.
He commended the IPM students for their farsighted choice to study management and leadership at a young age, urging them to treat their years at IIM Rohtak not merely as a degree pursuit but as a journey of self-discovery. The students of the Integrated Programme in Law are also entering a profession that has played a highly distinctive role for centuries, he added.
Sinha encouraged all students to ask questions, engage in respectful disagreements, and explore diverse fields beyond the curriculum.
“New ideas develop through meaningful dialogue and healthy differences of opinion. Do not limit yourselves to the curriculum, because studying diverse fields will broaden your vision. In the coming years, you will not only acquire knowledge, but also discover yourselves. You will enjoy successes and face challenges; at times you will be proud of your decisions, and at times you will learn from them. These very experiences will make you not only better business leaders, but also better human beings,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said that while no one can predict the world of tomorrow, wisdom, moral courage, and values will remain the greatest support for students. He urged them to sharpen curiosity, strengthen character and commit to contributing positively to society and the nation.
