Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh govt is integrating artificial intelligence (AI)-based surveillance system along the upcoming 594Km long Ganga Expressway to enhance commuter safety and ensure swift emergency response.“The AI-enabled cameras, installed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), will automatically detect overspeeding and wrong-side driving, triggering real-time alerts in control rooms. This will enable mobile response teams to immediately reach the spot, ensuring prompt enforcement action and medical assistance, including ambulance services if required,” said UPEIDA superintending engineer Narendra Kumar Shukla. Stretching 594-Km from Prayagraj to Meerut, the expressway is nearly 96% complete and expected to open soon. To monitor the corridor, two advanced control rooms are set up— one in Prayagraj and another in Meerut. Authorities believe the technology would reduce accidents by enabling proactive monitoring rather than relying solely on manual enforcement. The system is designed not only to penalise violations but also to strengthen emergency management through rapid communication and coordinated response. The expressway will connect 12 districts—Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Unnao, Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Sambhal, Amroha, Bulandshahr, Hapur and Meerut—substantially improving connectivity between eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. Once operational, the corridor is expected to boost economic activity, cut travel time, and set new benchmarks in highway safety through cutting-edge technology.
