Shivamogga: Artificial Intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) technologies cannot replace a teacher or the essence of learning; they are mere tools that support education. However, it is crucial for educators to adopt to them, stated Rashmi P Shetty from the department of robotics and AI at Nitte University.Speaking at a one-day workshop—‘The Use of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in Education’, jointly organised by Kuvempu university, the Karnataka State Higher Education Council at the varsity’s Jnanasahyadri campus in Shankaraghatta, she noted that while there are global concerns about AI reducing jobs in IT and service sectors, humans possess the unique intelligence to adapt and find ways to use these technologies effectively.
VC of Kuvempu University, Sharath Ananthamurthy, observed that while countries like Denmark prioritised human intelligence by restricting AI in education, it is better to create opportunities for creative integration rather than outright rejection. The event at the Basava Sabha Bhavan, saw participation from RUSA coordinator Prof GJ Satish, Raghavendra Prasadi of intuitive data solutions, and various faculty members and researchers.
