Ahmedabad: Two separate wall-collapse incidents at under-construction sites in Bopal and Bodakdev areas on Saturday prompted the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to suspend development permissions for both projects. In Bopal, retaining walls on both sides of an under-construction site collapsed amid rainy conditions, posing risks to a road on one side and residential houses on the other. Residents alleged that construction activities continued despite the collapse and raised concerns over safety at the site. They claimed that instead of prioritising repairs and securing the area, work was allowed to proceed.Following the incident, AMC barricaded the road adjoining the site where the wall collapsed to prevent any untoward incident. In a separate case, a boundary wall at an ongoing construction project on Sindhu Bhavan Road in Bodakdev also gave way. An AMC official said a portion of the diaphragm wall at the site had collapsed, leading the civic body to immediately suspend the project’s development permission.Restoration work is currently underway at the Bodakdev site, while AMC is monitoring both locations to ensure safety measures are implemented.
