Ahmedabad: An Ahmedabad-based visa consultant has filed a cheating complaint over an alleged overseas work permit scam. He told police that a Mumbai firm took Rs 16.05 lakh to process six visas. The deal involved four applications for Finland and two for Bosnia. According to the complaint, neither the visas nor the refund came through.According to the complaint registered at Ghatlodia police station on Friday, the consultant said he has been working in the visa advisory business for nearly 10 years. He came in contact with the Mumbai firm in April 2024 and later visited its office, where he was allegedly told that the work would be completed “100% within three to four months”.The consultant told police that the firm showed him copies of visas on a laptop and shared its rates for overseas work permits. As per the complaint, the charge was Rs 4 lakh per person for Finland and Rs 2 lakh per person for Bosnia.After returning to Ahmedabad, he collected documents from six clients who wanted work visas: four for Finland and two for Bosnia. The documents were allegedly sent to the company manager through WhatsApp and email in Sep 2024.The complainant stated that between Oct 2024 and June 2025, a total of Rs 16.05 lakh was transferred online from the complainant’s bank account to the firm’s bank account in instalments.The complainant in his complaint stated that despite repeated meetings and follow-ups, no visas were processed. “No satisfactory reply was given,” the complaint said, adding that nearly one-and-a-half years passed. The accused allegedly kept giving excuses, stopped answering calls, and neither arranged the promised visas nor returned the money.Hence, finally on Friday, the complaint of cheating and abettor present when offence is committed.
