Ahmedabad: Correcting a previous oversight in its green cover initiatives, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a Rs 11.6 crore project to plant and maintain 9,000 trees along the city’s metro corridors. While the “Mission Million Trees” drive successfully planted 4 million saplings during the 2025 monsoon, the open land flanking the metro routes was missed. To address this, the AMC garden department has planned a specialized intervention for the winter and summer seasons of 2026. Although originally estimated at Rs 10 crore, the standing committee on Friday cleared the proposal at 11.50% above the base cost to ensure these 9,000 trees are properly established. The committee, chaired by the AMC administrator, also greenlit two separate road resurfacing proposals worth Rs 75.7 crore for the eastern wards. This includes Rs 36.23 crore for Vastral, Viratnagar, and Bhaipura, and Rs 39.43 crore for Indrapuri, Vatva, and Isanpur. Both were awarded to a single contractor at roughly 32% above estimated costs.Furthermore, contracts for agencies supplying a combined 155 sanitation supervisors were extended by one year, as the current terms were set to expire on March 31. Also, a payment of Rs 29.70 lakh was approved for three agencies tasked with preparing maintenance checklists for AMC-owned buildings, gardens, and properties.
