Chatra: Two sisters and a 35-year-old woman died in lightning strikes in two places in Chatra district on Friday, officials said on Saturday.Poonam Devi, 28, and her younger sister Kalyani, 26, were working in the courtyard of their house in Jehra village under Meral panchayat when they were struck by lightning. The two were married to the same person — Sanjay Bhuiyan, 32, an earthmover operator — who also sustained injuries.The injured were initially taken to Katkamsandi community health centre (CHC) by villagers and later referred to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Hazaribag, where doctors declared both women dead. Sanjay is undergoing treatment. Poonam and Kalyani have a son each.In another incident, Sama Parveen, 35, died after being struck by a bolt of lightning in Pathalgada block.Officer-in-charge of Pathalgada police station, Rakesh Kumar, said, “A total of three persons died due to lightning strikes. The bodies were handed over to their relatives after post-mortem examination.”
