Ahmedabad: The civic body has as many as 11,687 positions vacant in employee grades from Class 1 to 4, against the 18,992 positions approved. For Class 1, 88 positions were approved, with 49 filled and 39 vacant. In Class 2, out of the 633 approved positions, 346 were filled. For Class 3, 7,909 positions were approved of which 3,711 were filled. Of the 10,362 Class 4 posts approved, 3,199 were filled, according to information shared by AMC in response to a question by opposition leader Shehzad Khan Pathan.Additionally, 498 positions for peons were approved. Of these, 366 are vacant. Although there is a provision for promotions, no peon has been promoted in the last five years, according to sources.AMC also disclosed information on annual salary of employees and officers. In 2024-25, Rs 1,089.57 crore in total was paid as net salary, the amount was Rs 979.79 crore for 2023-24. Up to Jan this year, Rs 1,032.40 crore has been paid as net salary for 2025-26.
