Ahmedabad: A Shela family has alleged that gold jewellery worth Rs 15.5 lakh went missing from their apartment after three men, hired through a social media advertisement visited them for deep-cleaning service in June.A complaint lodged with Bopal police states the theft came to light on Saturday when the family searched for jewellery kept in two purses inside a cupboard in the master bedroom. After failing to locate the ornaments, the family checked with their children and searched the house before approaching police.The missing valuables include a gold chain, two bracelets, a mangalsutra, a necklace, four rings and a nose ring weighing about 155 grams in total and valued at Rs 15.5 lakh.According to the FIR, the complainant’s wife had contacted a cleaning service after watching a social media reel on June 12. She initially sought cleaning services for the kitchen and bathrooms and was quoted Rs 3,000. The next day, two men arrived at the apartment and suggested they could clean the entire house for Rs 5,000 if another worker joined them. A third man subsequently arrived and the trio worked in the house from around noon till 6pm.The complainant said he transferred Rs 5,000 through UPI to one of the workers before they left. Police have obtained the mobile number used for the UPI transaction as well as another number that was registered on the housing society’s MyGate visitor management application when the workers entered the premises.The family suspects that the jewellery was stolen during the cleaning work and has named the three unidentified workers in the complaint. Police are analysing the visitor records, mobile phone details and payment trail to identify the suspects. Bopal police have registered a case of theft.
