Ahmedabad: The city crime branch has arrested a 44-year-old repeat offender and recovered two countrymade pistols and four live cartridges from his possession during a patrol in the Danilimda area. Acting on a specific tip-off, officials intercepted the accused near his residence and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of the illegal weapons worth around Rs 10,400. A case has been registered with the Detection of Crime Branch police station under sections of the Arms Act.Police said the accused has a long criminal record and has been previously booked for multiple serious offences. These include a 2013 case of attempted murder along with charges under the Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act. He has also been involved in cases related to violation of prohibitory orders, jail offences and rioting.Officials further said that he was booked again in 2025 under the Arms Act and the Gujarat Police Act. Prior to 2013, too, he was arrested in cases involving illegal weapons and other criminal offences. Crime branch officials are now investigating the source of the firearms and whether the accused had any plans to use them for criminal activities.
