Ahmedabad: A 27-year-old carpenter and construction businessman from Dakor has filed a complaint with Kheda cybercrime police, alleging he was cheated of Rs 6.3 lakh after investing in an online application that promised unusually high monthly returns. The complainant alleged that the platform stopped allowing withdrawals after attracting investments from users.According to the complaint lodged on Monday, the victim was introduced to the app by a friend in Oct 2025. He was allegedly told that an investment of Rs 1 lakh would generate a monthly return of Rs 12,000. The complaint names a Dakor resident, and a Mehsana resident as facilitators of the scheme.The complainant stated that he initially invested Rs 10,000 and received a digital payout through the application. Encouraged by the return, he gradually invested larger sums.Between Oct 2025 and April 2026, the complainant allegedly transferred money to accounts linked to the accused. In his complaint, he claimed to have invested Rs 5.7 lakh during the period. He also said that an initial successful withdrawal of Rs 900 boosted his confidence in the platform.The complaint states that in March, the app was renamed, and shortly afterwards, investors began facing difficulties in withdrawing their money. When questioned, the accused told investors that withdrawals were suspended as the company had been converted into a private limited entity.The complainant alleged that money was not returned despite several attempts. He later contacted the national cybercrime helpline and registered an online complaint. The cybercrime acknowledgement reportedly helped trace transactions to multiple bank accounts, including those linked to Bank of Baroda and payment banks.
